Why AO-C is not A-OK

March 19, 2019 --

The folksy campaign of Sen. Sanders in 2016 seemed to have softened the harsh bureaucratic, big government edge of socialism.

And the election to Congress of Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, who worked in the Sanders 2016 campaign and is now promoting a Green New Deal, is seen as a sign that the Democrat party is intent on making a hard left turn.

But, as Friedrich Hayek warned, socialism is opposed to democracy; the term democratic-socialism is an oxymoron. LPR is favorably disposed to conservative populism, the goal being the common good.

Socialism imposed by an "elite," ignorant of economic reality leads, inevitably, to common misery. Consider the current travail afflicting Venezuela, where millions have fled and the infrastructure is crumbling; where there are reports that people get water from drainage pipes to flush toilets, water that is not drinkable.

As indicative of her instant-celebrity status in the media, Ms. Ocasio-Cortez is often referred to be her initials, AO-C, but the letters could also stand for Always Obnoxiously Confident. Consider, please, her warnings of the threat to the planet if we don't end reliance on fossil fuels. Her warnings of existential danger reflect ignorance, LPR believes, not common sense.
