Broadway Show League

AUGUST 4, 2008 --

Producers is gone, but Jujamcyn has returned after being absent  a couple of seasons.  Beauty and the Beast isn't on the field, but Chicago has its first softball team in the show's long Broadway run, and Playwrights Horizon is gone, but Wicked is back.

LPR went to the Broadway Show League for the first time this season, July 31.  The regular season has concluded and the teams were in the second week of playoffs, last Thursday.

LPR saw Jujamcyn defeat Nederlander, Rent beat Avenue Q, and Actors Equity win over Local One.

Other teams back from last season include Lion King, Jersey Boys, Blueman Group, Actors Fund and Atlantic Theater Company. New teams include South Pacific, In the Heights, Mermaid and Cry Baby.  For a full listing of this season's Broadway Show League, standings and schedule, click LPR's link to the league.

Next games are Thursday, August 7, at the Heckscher softball fields, starting at 11.30 a.m.  Enter the park at 63rd Street and Central Park West.  The field are just across the park's West Drive.

Nederlander (blue) - Jujamcyn postgame line.  Winning pitcher was Tim McDonough Sr.  There are nine members of the McDonough family-- long associated with the league -- on the Jujamcyn team. Indeed, all the red shirts in this photo could be McDonoughs.  If Jujamcyn wins the playoffs, there might be reason to refer to the McDonough Mystique.
