New York Do-Gooders

NOVEMBER 10, 2007 --

LPR, walking along Seventh Avenue, near St. Vincent's Hospital at 10th Street, November 5, noticed some people cleaning up a small green area near a wire fence bearing tiles memorializing the victims of 9/11.

Upon inquiry, LPR learned that this was a green team from The Horticultural Society of New York, Mark A. Hill project manager. Mr. Hill is the gentleman in the group photo wearing a Zabar's hat -- that, he admitted to LPR, he purchased thinking, on quick glance, it said "Zanzibar."

The Gardeners

The accompanying photos show that Mr. Hill's team left 7th Avenue and 10th Street a better place than they found it.  LPR here calls for an end to the derisive use of the term "do-gooder,"  and hopes, in that spirit, passersby will leave the spot just as the Horticultural Society's do-gooders left it.
