MARCH
6, 2005 --
Washington
D.C. has its annual Cherry Blossom Festival. Why not "The
Gates" as an annual festival for New York City, the
last two weeks of February each year, to help the city get
through winter?
The idea occurred to LPR as it viewed a Gates-bereft west side of Central
Park, at 86th Street, March 5.
LPR invites your response -- see this week's poll question.
A lot of people were in Central Park, February 27, the last official
day of
"The Gates" as an artwork throughout the park. That afternoon, LPR
photographed what might have been a winged tribute.
The dismantling began at the northern end of the park, the next day,
with snow falling that night.
