Let's End Federalism?

November 19, 2017 --

The lead editorial in The New York Times, November 8, "Let the People Pick the President," marked the first anniversary of the election victory of President Trump by calling for, effectively, doing away with the Electoral College method of determining the winner of the presidential election. The paper complained, "The existing winner-take-all system, which awards all of a state's electoral votes to the popular-vote winner in that state, no matter how close the race, is deeply anti-democratic."

The solution for the Times: "states agree to award all of their electoral votes to the winner of the national popular vote." And the voters in the individual states...be disregarded? Why would states agree to have their voters disregarded by being merged into the national pool?

Seems to LPR like a recipe for ending the federal nature of the USA -- without even an amendment calling for the ultimate political transformation of the Republic -- into not only a uniform political entity but, probably, a one-party state, as well, the better to lord over the people.
