Gas Price Outrage Only Now?

OCTOBER 30, 2005 --

Suddenly, on word that the oil companies raked in billions and billions of dollars over the summer, Republicans in have started to speak out, and the media has taken notice.

LPR would note that it first mentioned rising oil prices 18 months ago when oil was approaching $40 a barrel.

And with the LPR attempts this year to call attention to the rising prices, not a
Republican voice was heard, and one media outlet trumpeted a poll saying that motorists would accept prices up to $3 a gallon.

A comment by Senate Republican Leader Bill Frist sounded to LPR like a variation of the warning in Federalist 57 about those seeking the "ambitious sacrifice of the many to the aggrandizement of the few."
