Miles from the Mainstream
D. R. ZUKERMAN, proprietor
Harvey Fierstein Place

JANUARY 9, 2005 --

Broadway legend Harvey Fierstein took up the role of Tevye, in Fiddler on the Roof, beginning previews January 4.

LPR was at the Minskoff Theater that
evening, getting photos of Joseph Stein, who wrote the book to the musical (which originally opened forty years ago) and,
in addition to Mr. Fierstein, John Cariani (Motel) and Sally Murphy (Tzeitl) and Andrea Martin (Golda).

Mr. Fierstein, last on Broadway in
Hairspray told LPR that he likes the role of Tevye.

LPR also got a photo of Daniel Davis, while waiting for the end of the Fiddler performance. He is playing the part of Georges in La Cage Aux Folles, at the
Marquis Theater, across 45th Street from Fiddler. In addition to Tonys for Torch Song Trilogy (best actor, best play) and
Hairspray (best actor in a musical), Harvey Fierstein won a Tony for writing the book to the musical La Cage Aux Folles.

How about that -- starring in one musical
with a musical whose book you wrote right across the street? The winter of 2005, this part of 45th Street - -between Broadway and Eighth Avenue -- is, actually, Harvey Fierstein Place.
