JANUARY
27, 2004 -- New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg visited
a Veterans of Foreign Wars post in Brooklyn, the evening of January
21, arriving, LPR was informed, 15 or 20 minutes early. And isn't
that remarkable for a politician?

These five photos
were taken by LPR after the mayor spoke. The atmosphere in the post
was congenial.

Certainly the mayor's
raised thumb, shown in one photo, was not meant to indicate he would
be serving just one term.
The mayor's congeniality at the VFW post, January 21, is contra-indicated by
the photo of the Parking Violations Bureau officer at work, January 22, a few
blocks from City Hall, serving a $65 parking ticket.

LPR overheard
the mayor comment, as he was about to leave the VFW hall, "You
can't please everyone." (LPR immediately thought, "But
you can try.") Earlier on
January 21, in the City Hall lobby, LPR heard a leader of unhappy citizens call
the mayor's plan for a property tax rebate "fiscally irresponsible and socially
unfair."

Fortunately,
this speaker did not demand that the mayor offset the property
tax rebate by still higher parking fines, as far as LPR is aware.
