APRIL
10, 2005 --
Tom
Ognibene has to be considered the longest of long shots in the
2005 mayoral campaign -- seeking to run on the Conservative line
and also challenging Mayor Bloomberg in the Republican primary.

Tom
Ognibene, candidate for mayor, April 4.
|
He is a lawyer who
served ten years as council member from Queens. LPR wonders that if
he somehow got to be mayor, his administration would overhaul the Parking
Violations Bureau, whose initials, PVB, today seem to stand for
Pounce, Vanquish, Bully.
A few months ago, there was a report that he turned down a job offer from the
Bloomberg camp. This qualifies Mr. Ognibene for the Col. Dax award, named for
the character in the film "Paths of Glory" -- played by Kirk Douglas
-- who was not angling for a promotion when he represented three French Woirld
War I soldiers, doomed to the firing squad.
Mayor Bloomberg recently announced that a lot of work was being done to repair
city potholes and he encouraged people to report potholes by calling 311.
Why doesn't the mayor just direct all city personnel who daily traverse city
thoroughfares
to report potholes?

Do
the gates at the City Hall parking area interfere with
oversight of PVB? (The car shown entering City Hall grounds
bears a council member's
license plate.)

for the rest of us?
