Tosca (don't be misled by the Russian subtitles) …

Performed at the Teatro Real de Madrid (2004).

LPR picked this production to, possibly, introduce its visitors to bass Marco Scotti, here in the supporting role of Angelotti.

In LPR's view, he should get a steady diet of leads. The late diva Daniela Dessi is a marvelous Tosca, Fabio Armiliato is very good as Caveradossi and the Scarpia of all Scarpia, of couse, is the great Ruggero Rimondi.

Company …

For LPR, Stephen Sondheim's best score, especially boiled down to its essentials in this medley, orchestrated by Richard Hayman and performed by the Boston Pops Orchestra under the baton of Maestro Arthur Fiedler who probably made more Americans aware of classical music than any other conductor of the 20th century -- with the possible exception of the great Leonard Bernstein.

More recently the musical got Woke-ized for Broadway, and did not survive. Moral: Let musicals maintain their original form.
