LPR Memo to President Trump Concerning the American Health Insurance Act

April 5, 2017 --

Mr. President, this is to refer to the “health care” act by its precise name, as it concerns health insurance, directly, not health care, LPR believes.

There are reports that you intend to try and work with Democrats on the matter of health insurance reform. This is to advise you that as the condition for collaboration with the Democrats, they should first acknowledge that President Obama had assured the American people that the legislation that became known as “Obamacare” would reduce health insurance premiums by $2,500 a family, and that under the law people could keep their physicians and health insurance.

The Democrats must also acknowledge that these assurances were false; premiums are far more costly and people are losing their doctors and health insurance. If the Democrats refuse to acknowledge that the American people were misled by President Obama, you would be making a huge mistake in thinking they would help you reform health insurance for any purpose other than imposing a single payer insurance system on the American people.

Now, if that is what you support, you would simply be betraying all the people who voted for you, as LPR doubts that your voters want national health care (which is what a single payer system would establish) foisted on them. If the Trumpsters wanted national health care, they would have voted for Hillary Clinton, don’t you think?

How about this? On your next visit with the people, single out a few of your supporters, and ask them if they would rely on the advice of their neighbors how to live their lives. Bet they will wonder why you think they would live their lives based on the direction of their neighbors. But don’t Democrats expect that we will live our lives based on how they tell us to live our lives?

That is why you should tell Democrats, “you accuse me of being ‘authoritarian’ when you reek from authoritarianism, starting with your demagogic appeals to the people.” You could continue: “Hamilton pointed out, in Federalist No. 1, history instructs: ‘that of those men who have overturned the liberties of republics the greatest number have begun their career by paying an obsequious court to the people, commencing Demagogues and ending Tyrants.’” Mr. President, what we know as “Obamacare” was just the Democrats acting as “Demagogues” for purpose of tyrannizing the American people. Please, work with all Republicans in undoing this giant step towards Tyranny. Make Hamilton proud of you.

And by the way, Mr. President -- you must demand that any health insurance legislation must apply to all Americans, including the members of Congress.

Why? These words from James Madison in Federalist No. 57 will make this demand clear: If the American spirit of freedom "shall ever be so far debased as to tolerate a law not obligatory on the legislature, as well as on the people, the people will be prepared to tolerate anything but liberty."
