LPR Thanks …

APRIL 22, 2008 --

… the New York State Bar Association for its May 14 program on issues facing lawyers of senior age who may be required to retire, and other senior lawyer who may wish to continue gainful employment in some capacity.

That the program in New York filled a Radisson (formerly Martinique) ballroom tells LPR that the issue of senior lawyers wishing to remain gainfully employed will get greater attention in the years ahead.

Lynn M. Kelly, executive director of the City Nar Justice Center was the only person on the seven member panel to hint that some senior lawyers may be experiencing anxiety and depression consequent to their changed status.

It was good for this writer to hear from David N. Ellenhorn that government agencies do not discriminate because of age.  The program was moderated by Robert J. Kafin.

LPR recommends that the New York State Bar take the next step -- developing a program of career counseling  (including technology training) for senior lawyers.

Part of the audience at the well-attended program sponsored by the New York State Bar Association on issues facing senior lawyers in transition (and for this writer, at least, unemployed).
