Miles from the Mainstream
D. R. ZUKERMAN, proprietor
The New Ballpark

SEPTEMBER 6, 2007 --

LPR stopped by the workers' entrance to the future home of the Yankees, August 31 and noticed that part of the exterior wall could be seen behind the wood fence that stands outside the construction site along River Avenue. (Is this the first image of the exterior wall to be made public?)

Two days earlier, LPR got the accompanying images of ironworkers erecting the framework of the new stadium..

Without the labor of the construction workers shown in the accompanying images, baseball players would not have stadiums that hold more than 50 thousand fans. LPR is reminded that some 400 years ago, Thomas More, in "Utopia," pointed out that the people who perform society's essential services are paid less than those who follow pursuits perhaps not so vital to a functioning community.

But, let it be said that baseball players (unlike movie stars) do not arrive at their fields of engagement in chauffeur-driven limos. For now.
