Mr. Leonard Steinberg, Please Meet Federalist No. 57

Mr. Leonard Steinberg, a New Jerseyite, weriting to Commentary (April issue) on the magazine's January symposium on the future of conservativism, pointed out that the 53 symposiasts--drawn from the media, academia, politics -- "are all talking to each other and no one else." Mr. Steinberg's letter concluded: "Who will speak for the American people?" From LPR's reading of Federalist No. 57, the contributors to the Commentary symposium are asked by Madison: Who among you will stand with the people?

Tea Party -- Where Are Your Reasoned Arguments?

Tea Party emails usually include appeals for money but no mention of the relevance of our founding legacy in dealing with leftist propaganda. . Where, for example, is Tea Party mention of these words from Federalist No. 33, attributed to Alexander Hamilton: "If the federal government should overpass the just bounds of its authority, and make a tyrannical use of its powers; the people, whose creature it is, must appeal to the standard they have formed, and take such measures to redress the injury due to the constitution, as the exigency may suggest and prudence justify." What better way to respond to leftists who believe that there are no limits to their power when they control government? In brief, what good is money, without sound argument.

Mayor Bloomberg Announces Drone Surveillance of the City of New York

New York City's Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg announced, April 1, that drones will patrol the airspace over New York City, seeking out  persons carrying large bottles of soda,individuals emerging from pizza shops carrying one or more pizza pies, and shoppers leaving dispensaries of baked goods with sugar-based items. The drones will be equipped with loudspeakers to  inform the public that the identified individuals  have no concern that their recklessness is likely to lead to obesity that will increase public health costs.
