The
State of New Jersey …
The New Jersey gubernatorial campaign seems to consist of cross-claims by the
candidates that the other supports higher taxes for all but the wealthy.
Further reason why the particular identity of interchangeable candidates is
not required (Here, one is named Sen. Corzine; the other is named Forrester.)

The
State of New York …
A
wealthy Mr. Golisano, who previously has run for office in
New York as a third party candidate, is said to intend to run
for governor next year as a Republican.
Why bother? LPR wonders if there
really is a Republican party in New York, anymore.

The State
of the Miers Nomination …
Matthew Scully wrote an op-ed article in The New York Times, last week, that
revealed U.S. Supreme Court nominee Harriet Miers to be knowledgeable, analytical,
hard-working and compassionate.
LPR heard a PBS discussion on this
nomination -- without reference to the Scully piece, but with speculation that
the nomination might be withdrawn. One of the media people noted that the nomination
has split conservative ranks.
The split, apparently, is not a ruse to put the left off-balance. William Kristol
is opposed to the nomination. Some years ago, Mr. Kristol, with reference to
a presidential run by Pat Buchanan, said
that Republicans belong with the barons, not with the people. LPR wonders that
Kristol is more monarchist than conservative.
