Lonely
Pamphleteer Review is honored to publish a photograph of five U.S.
chief justices, taken after they heard an oral argument exhibition
at the annual
meeting of the New York State Bar Association.
Pictured are the The Honorable Gerry L. Alexander, Chief Justice of the Supreme
Court of Washington; The Honorable Nancy A. Becker, Chief Justice of the
Supreme Court of Nevada; The Honorable Miguel S. Demapan, Chief Justice of
the Northern Mariana Islands; The Honorable Randall T. Shepard, Chief Justice
of the Supreme Court of Indiana; and The

LPR here moves that these cases be heard by a special court consisting of --
Chief Justices Alexander, Becker, Demapan, Shepard and Toal.
After the demonstration, Senior Fox News Correspondent Rita Cosby moderated
a discussion on these cases.
(The photo of Mr. London and Ms. Cosby was taken after Mr. London remarked
that Fox News is "an oxymoron" -- afterwards apologizing. Ms. Cosby's
gibe, aimed at Mr. London, occurred after, early in the discussion part of
the program.)
Co-chairs of the Presidential Summit were Lesley Friedman Rosenthal, General
Counsel of Lincoln Center, and Lauren J. Wachtler, of Montclare and Wachtler,
a
New York City law firm. Supervising the annual meeting, held Janury 24 - 29
at the New York Marriott Marquis, was Kenneth G. Standard, association president.

A luncheon, held
by the association's Commercial and Federal Litigation Section, chaired
by Ms. Wachtler, with Ms. Rosenthal section vice-chair and program
chair, honored New York Attorney General Eliot Spitzer with the 2005
Stanley Fuld Award, named for a late chief judge of New York's highest
court -- the Court of Appeals.

Commercial and Federal Litigation Section, and Lesley Friedman
Rosenthal, Section Vice-Chair and Program Chair.

Mr.
Spitzer defended his Wall Street probes in the context of what he suggested
was federal disinterest. He also called into question the vast increase
in CEO salaries which, he said, were now 500 times workers' wages.
Were Mr. Spitzer, who is an excellent speaker and seems to have a spontaneous
sense of humor, to link his criticism of CEO compensation with the sage observations
in Federalist 57, he is sure to be New York's next governor.
(Even without the link, the New York GOP -- now THERE is an oxymoron -- might
as well not apply in the next gubernatorial race -- if Mr. Spitzer is the Democratic
candidate.)
