A magnificent voice silenced ...

May 19, 2022 --

Anna Netrebko, the great Russian soprano has been banned by the world's leading opera companies, including the Met in New York City.

The reason for this cultural sanction is immaterial; the opera world has chosen to deny the talent of Diva Netrboko to, in the words of the late Milton Cross, "opera lovers, everywhere."

The "Vissi d'arte" aria from Puccini's "Tosca" is an effective rebuke to those opera managers who have placed an Iron Curtain between this great artist and her public. Shame on all enemies of great art, which must transcend parochial demands.

And here is the great Anna Netrebko as Mimi in Puccini's "La Boheme." How dare the Peter Gelbs of the opera world act to silence this magnificent voice. Who do they think they are - Scarpia?
