Write-In Candidates: Keep Out

October 20, 2009 --

LPR learned on October 16 that two media debates on the Public Advocate election are scheduled: for October 25, 11 a.m., on radio station WNYC, on WABC-TV, and 7online; and for October 28,a t 7 p.m., TV - NY1; radio: WNYC.

LPR learned on October 17 that participants in these debates

"- Must be on the ballot as of the date of the Debate AND [emphasis in original]

"- Must have raised and spent $25,000 in compliance [with the administrative code] by the last filing date prior to the Debate, which is October 23,2009."

By definition, the name of WRITE-IN candidate David R. Zukerman is NOT on the ballot.

AND David R. Zukerman likely would not spend one percent of $25,000 in his campaign to restore the spirit of "communion of interests and sympathy of sentiments" to the ties linking NYC residents and their municipal government. (Quoting from Federalist 57.)

Now let us compare these restrictions with PA candidate Bill deBlasio's stated commitment to "defending our right to full participation in the democratic process." "Full participation" but not when it comes to public debates on the Public Advocate race? Washington, Adams, Madison, Hamilton, Franklin, Teddy Roosevelt, Gene Debs, Frank Capra et al. -- what to you think about this?

IF LPR clicksters agree that a qualified political OUTSIDER is best suited to be the next Public Advocate of New York City, please GET THE WORD OUT about David R. Zukerman, NOT YOUR CHECKBOOK.

WE can do this.
