LPR Discovers You Tube

August 22, 2020 --

LPR wholeheartedly recommends the Broadway music and classic music that You Tube offers, particularly these days when the Broadway and opera stages are closed, a tremendous cultural blow.  Recently, LPR discovered the John Wilson Orchestra, by way of surfing for the barn dance in the movie "Seven Brides for Seven Brothers.:  That segment from the film is highly recommended.  The men dancers are phenomenal.  But alonside the page that brought up the barn dance, LPR noticed search item about a BBC Proms concert featuring Broadway show music, including singers LPR had never heard of and thinks he should have:  Anna-Jane Casey and Julian Ovenden.

They are British, but provide an American sound, singling Broadway show songs.  As for conductor John Wilson, he is simply terrific, very much in the tradition of Arthur Fiedler, whose Boston Pops is sorely missed these strident days.

Darn the Covid-19; full music ahead!
